French malbec,
Simply Wine
$25 retail value
Château la Coustarelle Grand Cuvee Prestige Cahors, 2018 (from a queer, female winemaker, btw)
Winemaking in Cahors dates back to 50 BC and the "black wines" of the area were famous around the world in the middle ages. Malbec is king here and shows off its more bold and wild side.
A family winery, Château la Coustarelle is now primarily run by daughter Nadine and she has spent her time modernizing the winemaking and transitioning to organic farming in the vineyards.
This organic red is 90% malbec and 10% tannat blended in to help crank up the body and tannins. Sun ripened dark fruit, bittersweet chocolate, licorice and slight umami flavors give way to a robust, oaky finish. Luxuriate with this wine!

Simply Wine is FiDi’s favorite wine store, selling independent wineries with a focus on sustainability and organic farming. (They’re also friends of ours so we can attest to their excellent taste in wine, and general good vibes.)
